How I Serve Clients
During my 25 years in practice, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients in a wide range of matters. I have represented individuals, small businesses, very large businesses, and a variety of governments and governmental entities. I have worked on a vast array of business transactions, handled litigation in the state, federal, and tribal trial courts, handled appeals in the state and federal appellate courts, and have appeared before numerous federal, state, and tribal administrative agencies. In working with clients to develop strategies to address their business and legal issues, I draw on this background to craft creative solutions to address their needs.
Exceptional Client Service
Exceptional client service requires having an in-depth understanding of what the client desires to achieve, including an understanding regarding the client’s goals, concerns for what might go wrong, tolerance for business and legal risk, timeline, and budget. Without understanding each of these aspects, a lawyer cannot develop a strategy meet the client’s objectives in a cost-effective manner. I work with each client to understand these objectives, and to develop a strategy that to meet these objectives and to avoid business and legal pitfalls.
How My Background Helps Clients
I served for eight years as the General Counsel and as a member of the senior management team for Desert Diamond Casinos, an Indian gaming operation. In this capacity, I facilitated the implementation of business plans and developed creative solutions in response to legal and regulatory roadblocks.
Much of my work involved long-term agreements, such as gaming compacts and agreements relating to the operation of the Central Arizona Project (the multi-billion dollar project that delivers Colorado River water to central Arizona), including drafting such agreements and litigating over them. This experience has given me great insight into drafting agreements that both anticipate future problems and address those issues in a manner that reduces the likelihood for future litigation.
When I am Not in the Office
I can often be found bicycling, running, skiing, sailing, or travelling or some combination of the foregoing.
