How I Serve Clients
I provide advice and counsel on the full range of technology transactions facing small and emerging companies and government contractors, including: IP strategy, contract negotiations, corporate organization, venture financing, and technology transactions. For each client, I start by seeking to fully understand the client’s business, and then to quickly discern the problems it faces and find practical and effective solutions. I serve clients on both as-required basis, and also on longer-term assignments as an external general counsel.
Exceptional Client Service
Providing exceptional client service is best done when the attorney understands the context in which services are to be provided. I gain this understanding for each client by learning about their business goals, objectives, and operations.
Providing legal services without context is like flying at night without instrumentation. This is especially true in the high tech arena. I like to establish long-term relationships with my clients in the form of trusted, meaningful interactions where I can provide measurable value to their bottom lines. I enjoy my work most, and provide the best service, when I am totally involved in a client’s business and serving the needs of executive management.
How My Background Helps Clients
Two aspects of my background that help me better serve clients are my science background (biochemistry, biology, and neuroscience) and having worked in several in-house counsel positions.
Having a strong science background helps me better understand the context of much of the work that my clients are engaged in, which in turn helps me provide legal advice geared toward accomplishing business objectives. As a former in-house counsel, I understand and appreciate the project management, budgeting, planning, and other aspects involved in projects, as well as the business constraints facing business executives and in-house counsel.
When I am Not in the Office
When I am not in the office, I can be found playing with my dogs, at the movie theater, or out with friends.
