Experienced litigator Philip Mitchell joins RL&L.
Philip G. Mitchell, a commercial litigator with 36 years of experience, has joined Rusing Lopez & Lizardi as a partner and will practice in the firm’s Scottsdale office. Mitchell joins RL&L from the Cavanagh Law Firm in Phoenix where he was a senior member. His practice areas are bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, commercial and corporate litigation and real estate. His experience includes workouts, restructuring, foreclosure, asset recovery, asset sales, real property, litigation, litigation management, liquidation and Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations. Mitchell has represented individuals and institutional creditors, trusts, debtors, Chapter 11 trustees, receivers, liquidation trusts and creditor and equity committees in state and federal court actions. He is a Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated attorney. He earned his law degree from Arizona State University.

Rusing Lopez & Lizardi also added three associates, Travis Atwood, Caitlyn Mitchell and Matthew Ramirez, to its growing business law practice.
Atwood joined the firm after earning his law degree magna cum laude at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law earlier this year. While in law school, Atwood served as a judicial extern for Honorable U.S. District Court Judge James Teilborg and gained courtroom experience working for the Pima County Public Defender and the Colorado State Public Defender. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Texas, and he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the U.S. Military Academy. At RL&L, he will be practicing in both the business transactional and litigation areas.
Mitchell earned her law degree from Arizona State University and previously practiced in Phoenix where she gained experience in probate, guardian and conservatorship proceedings, trust management and dispute resolution. She has a Master’s in Public Administration and dual bachelor’s degrees from ASU. Prior to attending law school, she worked in the Budget and Management Office for Maricopa County and also held a position in the Phoenix City Council Office. Mitchell’s practice areas will include business formation and corporate governance, bank and credit union representation, and real estate and construction litigation.
Ramirez also earned his law degree from the UA College of Law earlier this year and was a clerk for Rusing Lopez & Lizardi while in law school. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies from Arizona State University. While still in Law School, Ramirez was awarded the Community Leader of the Year award in 2017 by the Arizona Daily Star and Tucson Indian Center. In 2019, Ramirez was awarded The Robert A. Hershey Award for Outstanding Tribal Advocacy and was involved in the creation of a neighborhood legal services clinic to assist American Indians who live off-reservation and in the Tucson area. As an associate at RL&L, Ramirez works with clients in general business litigation matters, estates and trust litigation, gaming and Native American law, personal injury, real estate and construction litigation, and business formation and corporate governance.
